His Story

Dear Faith Family,
In the beginning, God, (Genesis 1:1).
Breathe in. Deeply. There, that smell. Like rich black fertile dirt. An allergy free garden after a rain. And the fragrance of the flowers filling the air. Soak it in. The warmth of each ray of sunlight as it kisses your skin. Listen. The wind carries the melody of the songbirds. Taste the cold crisp clear uncontaminated water. A mountain stream of delight on your thirsty lips. Now look. Look at the world around you. Let your eyes discover the work of the hands of your God.
Pondering God’s introduction of Himself to us, His creation. I’m fascinated. Consider a possible alternative. “In the beginning, God. Omnipotent. Omniscient. Omnipresent.” Although absolutely true, presented in that fashion it’s a bit one dimensional. Right? In that way it carries the full weight of information but struggles to connect with our experience.
Instead, God began with a story. His story. He created. What a wonder! Not only did God begin with a story – His story, He also introduced you into His story. What an act of genius! God let us know of His presence and His knowledge and His power through His story – the story of His creation. And then, He included us in His story with the ability to see and taste and hear and feel and smell.
Here’s the point. God isn’t interested in you simply knowing about Him. He wants you to have more than His data form. He wants you to know Him personally, experientially! Let that sink in. An encounter with the God of His story leads us straight to the rest of the story, the heart of His story – namely Jesus!
So, if God’s creation is His story, then He’s still making Himself known through general revelation (creation). For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made, (Romans 1:20). You are part of His story!
How is He demonstrating Himself to you today? Hold on. Stop for a minute…or ten and contemplate the character of God today (not just information). Ponder the flight of one of His birds. Marvel at the power of a charging rhino (but do move out of his way!). Consider the daily consistency of His sun.
How is He demonstrating Himself through you today? After all, last time I checked, you were still part of His creation! Who gets to see and hear the good news through you today?
