I Praise You!

Dear Faith Family,
I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are Your works; my soul knows it very well., (Psalm 139:14).
Here, purchase some of this delicious Kool-Aid. It’ll be “fun” they said. Drink it at 6:00 and…if you can actually go to sleep, set your alarm for 1:30 (Yes! In the morning!). At 1:30 you get a fresh round of that delicious Kool-Aid! (Ok. Maybe it’s not Kool-Aid) At that point you’re so tired you’ll never go to sleep. But no worries, you’re just going to get back up at 5:30 (Yes! In the morning!) to have a little procedure.
Lying in preop I was impressed with the skill of the one who inserted the IV needle. Barely felt it. In a matter of minutes, I didn’t even know that I was in this world – not sure I was! Fast forward – postop. I noticed that the IV left a little discoloration under the skin. And it itched. Boy did it itch. I watched with curiosity over the next couple of days as the discoloration dissipated and the itching became less intense. What was going on and how was that even happening?
So, online I did go. And this is what I read. The body has a well-trained army at the ready. The first line of defense is apparently the clotting cadets. When the intrusion alarm sounds, they rapidly flow to the scene of the crime and form a blockade. They minimize the number of blood escapees.
Next step? When the breach has been secured, tissue repair is on the agenda. Apparently red blood cells transport supplies (insert oxygen here) to the scene to aid in the reconstruction project. And listen to this. There are chemical communicators that stimulate the production of collagen. That collagen serves as a scaffold (you gotta love that word) for the new tissue construction!
Wow! I’m looking at the IV site (now almost no sign of a breach) with new eyes. Right there under the skin in the bend of my right arm was the site for more activity than I previously knew! Clotting cadets. Transport soldiers. And scaffolding. Amazing!
The punch line? However enthralled I might be watching the “troops” at work in my right arm, consider with me magnificence of the One who created such a well-oiled machine out of nothing! Wonderful are Your works; my soul knows it very well.
Why not stop right now and sing to our God. Sing to Him the doxology:
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav'nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
