It's Been A Minute

Dear Faith Family,
So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom, (Psalm 90:12).
The stillness of the night accentuates the pendulum swing of the clock that adorns our mantle. It stands tall as a tribute to my wife’s grandfather. He built the clock. And when time had passed it by, my father brought it back to life. It rises above the mantle as a reminder of the brevity of time and the certainty of its passing.
Today I paused to soak in a collage of pictures as they lit up the wall before me. Pictures of one who had fought the good fight, had finished the race, and had kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:6). Each picture captured a moment in time even as it declared its passing.
Time. What an interesting concept. The same remaining 225 days until Christmas prove an eternity for the young and a blink in time for the not so young. With eternity written in our hearts, seconds and minutes and hours are short.
Even as I type, the cuckoo clock in the next room declares the passing of yet another hour of time. Time is brief. “It took, like, forever to get to age 70” said no one ever!
Like faithful little soldiers the hands on the clock march forward marking the certainty of the passing of time. Nothing stops it. Try as we might to drag it out or to pause time but for an hour / a day, its passing never stops.
Now before you unplug all of your clocks, stop for a moment (or longer) and give thanks for the time that you’ve been given. And give thanks for its passing. Its passing ticks us closer to the return of Jesus. Its passing moves us one step closer to heaven!
After giving thanks, ask God what He wants you to do with the time that He’s given you. Today you’ve been given time. Why has your Father given you time today? Time is a precious gift. How are you investing the time that’s been entrusted to you?
