A Tell Tale Heart

Dear Faith Family,
For You formed my inward parts; You knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well, (Psalm 139:13-14).
There it was. A little pink box. It was resting peacefully in one of the cup holders between the front seats in my wife’s car. I knew what it was. See, on Sunday, a sweet faith family handed the box to me asking if I would deliver it to my daughter. Sure. Obviously, it hasn’t made it to her yet. You won’t tell, right?
Aren’t you curious to know what’s in the box? Me too. Well, not anymore. No, I didn’t open my daughter’s gift! – sorta / kinda. Here’s the deal. When the box was handed to me, I was told its contents. Better yet, I heard the contents. They pushed down on the top of the box. I heard one of the sweetest beats that ever reached the recesses of my inner ear. What was I hearing? I was listening to a recording of my granddaughter’s heartbeat!
And there it was. Waiting for me to listen in. So, listen in I did! (Can I help it if the battery doesn’t last until it gets delivered?!) At the other end of that recording is a beating heart. A sound that resounds so much more than its tiny little atriums and ventricles could ever hold. It’s being knitted with the smallest of needles in the biggest of hands. Knitted in the image of Him who’s carefully crafting the casing for its keeping.
That little heart tells a tale of the glorious God who knows my granddaughter by name. She’s the answer to an untold number of prayers heard by the sovereign, almighty Father from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named (Ephesians 3:15). Every beat is a rhythmic testimony that our God is good!
And so, your heart. It, too, beats a rhythm that testifies to the goodness of our creative Father. He made you in His image. Consider the meticulous care with which He handcrafted you!
I give You thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing Your praise; I bow down toward Your holy temple and give thanks to Your Name for Your steadfast love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things Your Name and Your Word, (Psalm 138:1-2).
