In Due Season

Dear Faith Family,
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up, (Galatians 6:9).
Tomorrow was opening day. Between a busy schedule and a lack of confidence, participation was iffy at best. Finally, the decision was made. It was now tomorrow. Off to the woods just to be still in God’s great outdoors. A barely one lane road (pathway?) separated the piney woods (that served as cover) from the rich green, knee-high winter-wheat.
It was a foggy first day and conspicuously absent from God’s great outdoors was the thunder of a spring gobbler. No matter. It felt good to disappear into the woods. Two silly deer served as entertainment as they harvested the winter-wheat by mouthfuls. That it wasn’t their winter-wheat was news to them. They, too, eventually disappeared into the woods.
A second series of inviting yelps yielded no thunder. There was a bit of welcome from the silence. And then? Then off to the left movement pierced the silence. The quiet turned into chaos. An attitude of bearded feathers with spurs was headed straight for the teenaged decoy (an imitation of a young gobbler). The angry attitude had taken up residence in the form of a mature gobbler (a thunder-chicken).
Having heard a “hen” nearby he took it upon himself to gobbler-handle the competition. I invited him home for lunch! There was great joy in the reap! (What?! You didn’t think we would make it through turkey season without a turkey story, did you?)
So, what’s the point? Don’t quit. Don’t quit what? Don’t quit hearing the Word of God and don’t quit doing the Word of God. When God is seemingly slow to answer – don’t quit praying! When you can’t see the fruit of your obedience – don’t quit obeying! When you can’t see or hear the activities of God – don’t quit serving Him! And when following Him hasn’t produced your desired results – don’t quit following Him!
Keep sowing the seeds of God’s Word. Share with others what God is teaching you. Love the Lord by loving others. Leave the due season of harvest to Him!
