Eye-level view of a serene forest path leading into the sunlight

Dear Faith Family,

And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia.  And when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go to Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them. So, passing by Mysia, they went down to Troas (Acts 16:6-8).

The car was gassed up, washed up and filled up (who knew that much stuff would fit in the back of a Buick?!).  We were west bound and loaded up and trucking toward the mountains of Tennessee.  Somewhere shy of Ashville our tummies proclaimed that it was time for lunch!

Oh, the wonders of the internet.  My wife found a not too far away White Duck Taco.  Google Maps provided the directions and we the horsepower.  It wasn’t long before we were there.  In fact, we were the only ones there.  “Closed on Mondays”.  Nooooooo.  Ok.  With teeth sharpened for tacos, it was back to the drawing board (otherwise known as the internet).

When what to our wondering eyes should appear?  The Tipsy Taco.  In route to our new find, we passed The Celtic Creamery.  Note to self, we need to stop there.  And stop there we did, on our return from the mountain.  My wife’s words went something like this: “this is the best ice cream I’ve ever put in my mouth!”

When the door of White Duck Taco was closed the door of Celtic Creamer was opened.

What’s the point?  Are we willing to try something new?  Like when God closes one door, do we sit in the parking lot pouting and pleading for Him to open the door?  Or are we interested in discovering what door God has already opened elsewhere?

I guess what I’m trying to say is that we need to be paying attention to the Holy Spirit’s direction in our lives.  He often shuts doors.  Our plans aren’talways the best plans.  God’s plans are.

Are you willing to prayerfully investigate new opportunities?  Are you open to new people, new relationships?  Are you available to step into new opportunities to serve God by serving others?  I’ll warn you, it might involve leaving the parking lot.

Lead Us Holy Spirit,

Pastor Karl
