Praise The Lord

Eye-level view of a serene forest path leading into the sunlight

Dear Faith Family,

Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in His mighty heavens! Praise Him for His mighty deeds; praise Him according to His excellent greatness! (Psalm 150:1-2)

What a fitting crescendo for the book of Psalms – eyes on the Lord, thoughts captivated by the glory of His character, His daily deeds of might on full display. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the psalmists wrote with integrity the reality of human frailty. And there, in the midst of the struggle, the greatness of our God blossoms…right before our very eyes!

Today I choose to join the chorus of praise echoing loudly through the hallways of HIStory. Today I recount the faithful, mighty deeds of our God! Today I praise the God who called me out of darkness and into His marvelous light! Today I praise Him who extended His call to serve Him – as a pastor, no less!

Too often we hear of the weight, the heartache, the challenge, the unending troubles of ministry. And let me be real – ministry is laced with all the above and more. (May I remind us that each is carefully shaped in the hands of our Potter on purpose – His mighty deeds!)

We’re all too familiar with the tragedies, the wounds, and the bitter brokenness of severed relationships. To put things in proper perspective, God is still redeeming, still bringing beauty from those ashes.  His mighty deeds are not simply in the absence of all such brokenness – but, even greater still, in the midst of such brokenness!

Today, I raise my hand as one of those broken vessels through which He graciously chooses to receive praise! He owes me no favors. He wasn’t under obligation to be faithful when I said “no”. I have earned no privilege with the Author of mighty deeds. And yet, God allows me to catch a glimpse of His work in the lives of you, the people He has called me to serve.

Today I praise the Lord for His work in your lives and for the gift of watching Him at work: when you fall down and He gently lifts your chin to look up, when in the darkest of nights He gifts you with the faith to acknowledge His presence – even when you can’t see Him, when He enables you to honor Him in celebration of victory, when the joy of the Lord is your strength, when He makes you thirsty for His Word…when the God of excellent greatness chooses to share His work in you with me!

Today I praise You, God,

Pastor Karl
