Thirsty?

Dear Faith Family,
Who knew that tender, little tomato plants needed water?! Wait just a minute. Let me back up and give you a little context. I’ve managed to turn gardening from a hobby to a sometimes-frustrating challenge. It seems that there are yet more problems than I have encountered. Give me time.
Carefully woven between the rows of my back forty (that’s my 8’ x 12’ garden) is a flat green sprinkler soaker hose thingy. You know, it shoots up tiny streams of water soaking the surrounding plants. Better idea – I turned my sprinkler hose upside down in order to maximize the moisture. Instead of some water shooting out of the garden, now it all soaks into the garden. Save the applause.
And thus, the back forty has been delicately watered from the okra to the squash to the peppers and to the tomatoes. Problem. The tomatoes were not growing. They were just kind of sitting there. Some even in the state of decline! They appeared to be dry. And yet, supportively by their side was the flat green upside-down sprinkler hose thingy.
Apparently, the holes facing the soil wasn’t such a good idea. The water simply was not coming out! At least not enough to satisfy the needs of the thirsty little tomato plants.
Are some of us withering because we’re not receiving the water of the Word of God? Oh, I know. The Bibles are all around us. We’re surrounded by the Word of God. In fact, we might even take a sip every now and again. Maybe a jumpstart on our to do list each morning?
But our souls desperately need the deep saturation that comes only from a prolonged drink from the Word of God. In fact, I believe that the best satisfaction comes from sitting down in the water and allowing your soul to saturate from the roots up.
Is it time to pick a book of the Bible and to slowly work your way through each chapter, just a couple of verses at a time? Look up words and their meanings in context. Ask God to meet you in His Word. Make the time to meditate on the words of Scripture. Use those words to compose a prayer back to your heavenly Father.
