When The Coffee Pot Blows Up!

Dear Faith Family,
I know that You can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted, (Job 42:2).
It happened on a Sunday morning! Of course it did! Water was going everywhere but in the coffee pot. Lights were flashing in morse code the words “danger Will Robinson, danger.” Our beloved coffee maker (a gracious gift that served us well), had ceased making coffee. I guess it no longer qualifies as a coffee maker (a coffee used-to-be maker? a coffee wanna-be maker?). No big deal, right? Unless it’s used every Sunday morning for the Faith Family breakfast. And I do mean breakfast!
Although it really wasn’t the end of the world as we know it, it was a dilemma. A dilemma that escalated with the cost of commercial coffee makers. Fast forward to Monday, the next day. Now what do we do? Inquiry was made regarding another commercial coffee maker. That inquiry was rooted in the past.
So, let’s fast backward. Some time ago a gracious friend offered us a commercial coffee maker. We didn’t know that we needed one! That was truly a generous offer. This week that offer was met with greater recognition and appreciation. Why? Trials, difficulties, and pain can lead us beyond our needs. Especially when the “fix” escapes us.
Consider Job (the guy just before the book of Psalms in your Bible) – his loss, his brokenness, his grief - it all led to the end of his own understanding. There seemed no explanation in sight, never mind a solution. But at least his frustration drew him to the sovereign God of the universe. Eventually, all of Job’s need bowed to an intimate knowledge of the Almighty.
It seems that we are, at times, prone to overlook the greatness of our God until need knocks on our door. Need. An unwelcome guest or a good friend? A distraction or an arrow that directs us to our Provider? A reason for despair or an opportunity for praise?
